MARCH 12-APRIL 16, 2020

72 Orchard St, New York, NY (between Grand St. and Broome St.)
Opening Reception: Thursday, March 12 from 6-9pm

In the world of rock ‘n roll, we look away from the nostalgic and we focus on the contemporary.
IT’S ONLY ROCK ‘N ROLL (But I Like It) looks at today’s underground punk/rock scene in New York City.
In the middle of the economic renaissance of New York city, which moved from the brink of bankrupcy of the 70s to becoming the city for the rich of today, the underground music community leads by example.
In the underground community life is an experience rather than an endless chase of the financial enrichment.
In New York City, arguably the most complex anthropological experiment on earth, this behavior is significant
and in my opinion, interesting and admirable.

Through a series of portfolios printed on newsprint paper and now with this exhibit, my intention is using the passion I have for photography to do my part, like many others are doing, documenting a place in time: today, here.

What I find night after night in loud, sweaty, crowded bars and venues throughout the city is respect, integration and tolerance.
Especially in these days of extreme polarization, I believe this is a story worth telling.

IT”S ONLY ROCK ‘N ROLL (But I Like It)
11’’x14’’ Silver Gelatin Prints
Over twenty 11’’x14’’ silver gelatin prints of (mainly) musicians performing on stage.
Displaied through The Great Frog’ shop and 72 Gallery
Everything about this project is been photographed using film, mostly 3200 iso.
I was happy to finally being able to show some of my photos as silver gelatin prints,
in my opinion, the most beautiful printing method.

BOOTLEG
Video Installation
One hour of roughly shot videos of performances, taken in venues of contemporary New York City.
Edited together into a channel-surfing-like slideshow, this installation aims to show the beautiful and rocking atmosphere you can experience any given night in the city.

THE WALL
Photos on Paper
Seven paper strips of various widths: 20’’ to 36’’, showing crowds, performers, bars and the super cool aesthetics it all!
Printing on paper gives me the opportunity to print a lot more photos, so I can include as many people as possible to be with me in this exhibit.
Going through the images editing for the Tabloid Portfolio Series has created some type of friendship between myself and all the people of this phenomenal community, so I feel like having them all around.

MANI
Tabloid Series
The Tabloid Portfolio Series is been my focus for the last seven years. It started as an experiment to print my portfolios in a different way, but quickly after it turned into a series of issues documenting the undersground music scene in NYC,
whic is currently a work in progress.
“The Bars Project” is been developed with the support of Ilegal Mezcal and cooperation Hayley Griffin of New York Groove.
